The Crabanero™ Story

Crabanero™ was born early one summers evening, many moons ago...

Crabanero™, the original bay seasoned Habanero sauce, was born of truly divine inspiration, a couple of rounds of mediocre Bloody Mary’s in an oceanfront crab house in Long Branch, New Jersey.

My friend Caddy and I had had a great day at the Belmar Seafood Festival, where we had just that day, broken the Philly Chili 1 day crab quesadilla sales record with 450 sold (the previous record was some 285).

Quesadillas, which we incidentally served with fresh salsa and hand crafted Philly Chili sauces, such as PCCo. Chipotle and PCCo. Habanero (recipes that will again see the light of day and some wood barrel aging, soon to be sold in the near future here on Crabanero.com)

The Bloodies had needed some punching-up; Caddy had pestered the kind tapper for the usual bloody accoutrements: horseradish, Worcestershire sauce, lemon, limes etc…nothing was really doing it for us.

I had the remainder of a bottle PCCo. Habanero Sauce in the car - I ran out and got it.

Being even a decent crab house there was Old Bay season on the bar, now I’m not suggesting that I was the first person to put Old Bay in a Bloody Mary, but I am as a matter of fact, the first to turn it into a hot sauce recipe. The trademark proves it.

The name? That was easy, I had poured a couple of dashes of PCCo. Habanero Sauce and Old Bay on the space between my thumb and forefinger (much like salt and lime for a shot of tequila.)licked it, had a fair slurp of the Bloody Mary. Caddy tried it and we declared it the best Bloody ever! After a few more slurps and a few steamed crabs and oysters doused with the same treatment of Old Bay and habanero sauce treatment, Caddy said there’s an idea for a sauce what would you call it, caught up in the moment I blurted out CRABANERO and the rest, as they say, is history.

So folks, what you have here is the only Bay Flavored hot sauce. It is great for any seafood recipe, awesome on the grill and I have even known someone to to use it to fry a turkey...just before the fire. That's another story altogether. Thanks for trying my sauce.

Have Fun!
